What Happens if I'm Eligible for a Credit Product?

If you qualify for credit, we will send you to the lender's website. You will then be able to complete your application with the lender. If approved, the lender pays the money into your bank account. Payment times may vary.

How Much Can I Borrow?

You can apply for credit between £100 and £5,000. The amount offered depends on your finances, credit history, and the lender's checks. Only borrow what you can afford to repay.

What Do I Need to Apply?

To apply for credit through Afforda, you must:

  • Be over 18 years old.
  • Live in the UK.
  • Have a UK Bank Account and UK Debit Card.

Each lender has its own lending criteria, including a minimum income

Does Borrowing Affect My Credit Score?

Many lenders offer eligibility checks. These show how likely you are to be accepted. These checks use a soft credit check. This does not affect your credit score.

If you apply for a loan in full, the lender will run a hard credit check. This checks how you have used credit before. A hard check shows on your credit report. It may cause a small, short drop in your score.

Try not to make many loan applications in a short period of time.

Could I Get Credit if I'm on Benefits?

Being on benefits does not always stop you from getting credit. Some lenders accept benefit income if you can afford the repayments.

It's important to be realistic about what you can repay.

Do I Need a Bank Account to Get Approved for Credit?

Yes, you need a UK bank account to apply for credit. Lenders use your account to send the money and take repayments. An active account also helps lenders check your identity.

How Do I Repay the Money I Borrowed?

If you accept a credit offer, the lender will explain how to repay it. How you repay depends on the type of credit. Most lenders take payments from your debit card using Continuous Payment Authority (CPA).

What's a Continuous Payment Authority (CPA)?

A Continuous Payment Authority (CPA) is an agreement with your lender. It lets the lender take payments from your debit card on agreed dates. The lender manages the payments.

What Happens if I'm Not Accepted for a Credit Product?

If you are not accepted for credit, there may be several reasons. The lender will not share the exact reason. But you can ask the lender which credit agency they used. The credit agency may be able to give you more details.
